McFolio Design Process.

  • This stage focuses on laying the groundwork for the design process. It includes conducting detailed research, reviewing existing literature, analyzing competitors, and identifying key themes. The insights are summarized and used to create a Product Design Specification (PDS) and an initial brief to define the project’s direction clearly.

  • In the Define phase, the goal is to build a clear understanding of the user and the problem to be solved. This includes defining the target user, creating personas, mapping the user journey, and gathering insights through primary research such as surveys or interviews.

  • The Ideate phase is all about generating and refining ideas. It begins with brainstorming and sketch ideation, followed by developing challenge statements and storyboarding to visualize potential solutions. Card prototyping is used to explore concepts interactively, while analysis ensures that all ideas align with the projects goals.

  • The Design/Prototype phase focuses on turning ideas into tangible, testable concepts. It starts with matrix evaluations and initial user testing to assess design viability. As the design evolves, advanced prototyping and high-fidelity models are developed, followed by performance testing to ensure functionality and quality. Final concept development and design for manufacture ensure the product is ready for production, meeting both user needs and manufacturing standards.

  • The Review phase ensures the design is aligned with both user needs and project goals. This includes validation and verification against the Product Design Specification (PDS), life cycle analysis to assess the product’s long-term viability, and extensive user testing evaluation.

  • The Implement phase focuses on finalizing the product for launch. This includes creating the final working prototype, aligning brand planning, and developing storyboards and visuals to communicate the design. Final testing ensures everything is functioning as intended, while a future development plan is set for continued growth.
